General Product Safety Regulation
The GPSR Regulation, also known as the General Product Safety Regulation, ensures that products sold in the market are safe for consumers. It applies to various products, including those that aren't covered by specific safety regulations. The goal is to protect people's health and safety. Under this regulation, manufacturers must provide clear instructions for safe use. They also need to take action if they discover that a product poses a risk to consumers. This might include product recalls or providing warnings. Consumers benefit from increased protection and can have greater confidence in the products they buy. If a product is found to be unsafe, authorities can take necessary measures to address the issue.
The General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) is a new key tool in the EU's product safety framework. Starting on December 13, 2024, it will replace the current General Product Safety Directive and the Food Imitating Product Directive. The GPSR modernizes the EU's approach to product safety, addressing challenges from our increasingly digital world. All consumer products in EU markets must be safe, and businesses have specific duties to ensure this. The regulation covers non-food products and all sales channels. The GPSR acts as a safety net for products or risks not covered by other EU laws, ensuring EU consumers are always protected from dangerous products, now and in the future.
